Friends recommended we visit Brown County while in the Ohio, Indiana area. I found the Last Resort on my Topo! USA map. As other reviewers have said the spaces are very close together, but I had no problem parking our 42’ motorhome or putting out the slide rooms or awnings. The awning does go pretty close to the neighbor’s. Each site in the pull through spots have concrete slabs about 12x8, a picnic table and a fire ring. The concrete patios are only about 6 inches apart. Alternating the direction of the pull though sites is a nice touch that a lot of newer parks should emulate. The patios aren’t well positioned for a 42’ diesel pusher with slide rooms on both sides. The park was probably laid out before DPs became so common. Our next door neighbor is in a rear door fifth wheel and the patio is in just the right spot. Some time before we arrived there was a big storm and a notice was posted to boil water until Monday, this affected the entire area. The sites are gravel with some grass and the interior roads are gravel. The park is very quiet at night and even in August several campers had campfires. If in the area we would probably come back.
Friends recommended this park over the others in town because of it’s proximity to the flea market. It’s on the grounds. We had a little difficulty finding the park. The address is listed as 345 N. Van Buren, but the entrance sign shown on the website is actually on W200N. The designers of the park layout have tried to maximize the sites in the available space, the sites are about 12’ apart. However, I’m not sure they ever used an RV. The utilities are arraigned very strangely. If the park was full I wouldn’t have enough water hose to reach the faucet that I think belongs to the site I’m parked in. There were no management types on site to guide us and payment is made by filling out the forms and leaving payment in a box near the entrance. No provision on the form for credit cards and no one answered the phone when I called. If there are restrooms and shower facilities I didn't see them. The park seems to be for fully self-contained units only. In spite of the above criticism, the park is quiet and as billed, close to most of the attractions of Shipshewana. In reading reviews of the other parks, this one is at least as good as those. I do like the fact that they take overnighters who don’t need utilities at a greatly reduced price and they don’t add fee for a third adult. We would probably stay here again if in the area.
We had to stay in a park with power due to a continuing 12v problem, no charging while driving. Other parks in the area were full. Some kind of local festival. It was after hours and the recording gave an emergency number. Ok, it was a minor emergency. The person who answered took time away from other jobs to see if she had a space for a 42’ motorhome. It was dark when we arrived, the space while long enough was very narrow. Without the expert help of an employee, Steve, we got parked. Although I hate to pay this kind of price for an overnight stop, power to the computers and TV is important. The employees were all friendly and helpful. We arrived late and left early without using any facilities except the site and electric. I still have a complaint about any park that charges for the third person, does the impact of an 88 year woman add up to $5 extra a night? KOA= Keep On Adding.
We were headed east on I-84 and didn't plan to stay in a park until I noticed the outside temperature was 102. We found the park in the Next Exit book. The check-in was quick and the two staff members were friendly and informative. We got a pull though site so as not to have to unhook our towed, space 54. The roads are narrow but not hard to navigate. Our site was next to the road, but with low traffic and a fence between the site and road we didn't notice any noise. I didn't even know there was a nearby train track until we were getting ready to leave. I thought this was a great park with mostly large sites. Every site had the type of sewer cover that is operated by stepping on it, I had never seen an entire park equipped in this manner. We would stay here again if we were in the area. Reasonable prices and a great spot along the Columbia River.
WOW! This is a beautiful park. Spacious sites, well landscaped (though the trees are small for now, tables and fire rings at every site which are about 30' from the next site. They have miniature golf and Frisbee golf, a pavilion and a rec room that will seat fifty. This would be a great park for a small rally.
This was our last night on the road before an American Coach Chapter of the FMCA meeting in Decatur. We needed to dump black water and refill fresh water tanks. The park is clean and the staff helpful as described in reviews. The problems we had are: the streets are narrow for a 42' motor home, some low hanging branches drug on the roof (13') going to the designated site. We were in one of four pull through sites. We have Verizon Broadband and got a strong signal from the MotoSat.
We had to stay in a park with power due to a continuing 12v problem, no charging while driving. We found the park in the Next Exit book. A quick Bing came up with the phone number and address. Since we were travel and it was after 6PM we phoned and made reservations. The two staff members we met were pleasant and very helpful. There are four pull through sites. We were originally assigned to site one it had a tree that would rubbed the driver’s side slide, we were switched to site three. While I wouldn’t consider this a destination park, they bill themselves ”Gateway to the Badlands.” The park was quite and was easy off the Interstate and back on. We would stay again if passing through.
This is our first time here. We drew space 29, with ocean view. I didn’t want to waste the view by backing in. After pulling in my electric cord and sewer hose were about 3 feet short. I fixed that with a short piece of grey water hose and purchased a 30 amp extension cord at the park store. It would be nice if these sites had hookups on both sides. I had read with interest previous reviews. I found the park personnel that I came in contact with to be very helpful and friendly. The par was clean, down to the site being raked since the last user. The ocean view is great. The noise from the PCH didn’t bother us and died down by 10 PM, after that the muted sound of the surf was very soothing. We have only stayed at a few parks this pricey, but the view and the fact this is the area where we wanted to be made the rates tolerable.
We hadn’t planned to stop in the Redding area. We developed an electrical problem and Coach Net had located a shop in Redding to check it out. We choose Mountain Gate because we had stayed here seven years ago while traveling north. We arrived after closing time and a very helpful camp host assigned us a pull through site. The trees have grown a lot since we were here last and of course we got under one that blocked our satellite. The camp host came to our rescue with a loaner cable so we could hook up to the cable provided by the park. The park is still beautiful and well maintained, too bad we couldn’t stick around, but I had an appointment for the service at 8 AM. Coffee and rolls are served in the game room starting at eight, so my wife and mother took advantage of that. Fortunately my experience with Redding RV Service was pleasant. The park does give both Good Sam and FMCA discounts. But like many commercial parks they charge for more than two persons and have an extra charge based incrementally on unit size. I never understood the charge for the third person, but in a way the size charge makes sense.
